Appointments

During the Coronavirus outbreak it is likely you will be offered a telephone call with a clinician regardless of your health complaint. We may ask that you ring on the day you need the appointment so that you can be screened before attending if needed.

Booking an Appointment

  • By Telephone 01740 651238 or 01388 720208.
  • Patient Online Services. You will need to register if you haven’t already. During the Coronavirus outbreak we can do this over the phone by asking you some security question.
  • Using those log in details you can also log in on the App called SystmOnline.

You are currently unable to arrange an appointment though online services. Please phone the surgery if you need an appointment.

Please click here to find out why the receptionist may ask you for a brief reason as to why you need to be seen.

Patients should telephone for an appointment to be seen at the surgery during normal opening hours. You may be seen without an appointment if it is essential. If you request an emergency appointment, you may be passed to the Duty Doctor or Duty Nurse Practitioner who will assess your request and be able to arrange appropriate treatment. If you live within the Chilton area you may be offered an appointment at Ferryhill as an alternative to Chilton as there are more GPs and Nurses available there.

Here at Ferryhill & Chilton Medical Practice we have 4 Nurse Practitioners who can help you with a range of ailments. Nurse practitioners may often be your first contact with a health professional if you ring for an on the day appointment as they can triage the call and direct you to the best professional for your needs. They can help you with many things such as minor illness and family planning. Appointments are available across both surgeries and are available for telephone triage for those on the day problems.

We operate a system whereby you can book appointments in advance (usually two or three weeks’ time) If you wish to see a specific doctor you may have to wait longer to see that particular GP or Nurse Practitioner. We do encourage patients to see the same GP Nurse Practitioner at the practice as this helps continuity of care. We always have the Duty Doctor or Duty Nurse Practitioner available to see patients on the day for more urgent problems which are usually triaged by telephone first.

If you would like to speak to your Doctor, but do not feel an appointment is necessary, leave a message with a receptionist who will arrange for the Doctor to phone you back.

For continuity of care please see the same doctor.

For URGENT appointments please contact the surgery for an appointment. If the same day appointments are full you will be offered a call back with the Duty Doctor or Duty Nurse Practitioner.

Home Visits

Patients are generally seen at the surgery between the hours of 8.15AM and 6.00PM.

Patients may be seen at home if the doctor considers a home visit necessary because of the patient’s medical condition. Please call the surgery as soon as possible if you believe a home visit to be necessary, preferably before 11.00AM. When you contact the surgery the staff may ask you for some details to ensure that you are suitable for a home visit and to give the doctor some indication of your medical problem.

Please note we do not normally visit children and babies at home, but offer a surgery appointment.
