Keighley Road Surgery is a Training Practice
Keighley Road Surgery is proud to be an approved training practice for undergraduate and postgraduate doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied healthcare professionals. All our GPs have a keen interest in training and education. We believe passionately in improving primary care in the UK through education and training new staff. GPs in training and trainee advanced care practitioners make up an increasing number of clinicians in primary care nationally as well as here at Keighley Road Surgery. They usually stay with us on placement for 6-12 months.
You may see a clinician in their first few years following qualification or a GP in training at Keighley Road Surgery. These clinicians are all well supported by qualified GPs in the practice and are always able to get advice from a qualified GP or clinician if needed. Please don’t be alarmed if a training clinician asks for advice from a senior GP/clinician during your consultation, we are committed to providing the best clinical care possible to our patients.

Student nurses
A student training to become a nurse. You may meet these student nurses as they shadow our clinicians’ consultations.
Medical student
A student training to become a doctor before they have qualified. You will also see a GP/ senior clinician if you see a medical student.
Physicians associate
These are clinicians undergoing or completing training in minor ailments or specific primary care conditions. If you see a physicians associate your care will be discussed with a senior clinician/GP and management will be agreed with them.
Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners
These are clinicians qualified in healthcare e.g. nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, mental health workers who have been working in those roles for several years but are now undertaking additional training to work more independently in primary care. They can access support as needed from a senior GP.
Foundation doctors
These are qualified Doctors that are in their first 2 years following qualification as a doctor. They have often worked as doctors in hospitals and A+E before coming to KRS. They can access support as needed from a senior GP.
GP Specialist Trainees (registrars)
These are doctors undergoing specialist training to become a GP. They are fully qualified doctors who have worked for several years in hospital specialties before starting specialist training to be a GP. They always have access to senior GP support as needed.
Advanced Nurse Practitioners
These are nurses who have many years of experience and have completed additional qualifications to practice independently in primary care. We still offer senior GP support as needed for particularly complex patients.
Advanced Clinical Pharmacists
These are pharmacists who have many years of experience and have completed additional qualifications to practice independently in primary care. We still offer senior GP support as needed for particularly complex patients.
