Pharmacy First Services

Patients can now get treatment for seven common conditions directly from their local pharmacy, without the need for a GP appointment or prescription.

The Pharmacy First scheme was launched by the government and NHS England on 31 January 2024 to give patients quick and accessible care and ease pressure on GP services.

But what does it cover and who will benefit?

Non-NHS Service

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Travel Vaccinations

The practice nurse offers travel advice and some immunisations.

Before Travelling:

  • It’s recommended you see the practice nurse approximately 2 months before you travel, so that adequate protection can be achieved.

Some vaccinations required for travel abroad are not given in practice and you will be advised to contact a Travel Clinic, see NHS Choices at www.nhs.uk for more information.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you should complete a form, available from reception or download a Travel Vaccination Patient Questionnaire

This will then be passed to the practice nurse to check your requirements, You should then contact us to check if you need an appointment for travel vaccinations.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
