Kidney Health Awareness

Your kidneys filter waste, balance fluids, and regulate blood pressure—keeping them healthy is vital for your overall well-being!

Are You at Risk?
You may be at higher risk of kidney disease if you have:
✔ High blood pressure
✔ Diabetes
✔ A family history of kidney disease
✔ Obesity
✔ A history of smoking

How to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy:
✅ Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water
✅ Eat a balanced diet – reduce salt and processed foods
✅ Keep active – regular exercise supports kidney health
✅ Manage blood pressure and sugar levels

✅ Get regular check-ups – early detection saves lives!

Know the Signs!
Kidney disease often has no symptoms in the early stages. Look out for:
⚠ Swelling in feet, ankles, or hands
⚠ Changes in urination (frequency, colour, or foaming)
⚠ Fatigue and trouble concentrating
⚠ Persistent itching or dry skin

Autumn/Winter Vaccinations

All patients over 65 or with longstanding respiratory or circulatory disorders will be offered a flu vaccination in October each year.

Family Planning

A comprehensive family planning service and advice is available by appointment with either the practice nurses or one of the doctors.

Health Support and Self-Referral Services

For patients seeking advice or help, please consider the following services before booking a GP appointment. This helps save clinicians’ time and allows it to be allocated to another patient, while also providing you with direct 1-to-1 care tailored to your needs.

Pharmacy Referrals

Patients may be directed to a pharmacy instead of requiring a GP appointment, ensuring quicker access to care and treatment. This approach highlights alternative options, such as consulting a pharmacist for expert advice, checking trusted online resources for guidance, or purchasing over-the-counter medication when appropriate.

Maternity

All the doctors and the community midwife provide maternity medical care for pregnant women.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Occupational Health at Sherrington Park

Dr Vindla runs a Private Occupational Health Service under the name 402 Ltd should you wish to enquire about this service please call 0115 9858554 and ask to speak to Reg who is the administrator for this company.

Private Medicals

There is a charge for this service; please ask for further details at reception.

Smear Tests

We recommend a test every three years for women between 20 and 65 years of age. These tests are normally performed by the female nursing staff.

Stopping Smoking

Appointments can be made with either the doctor or the practice nurse or our receptionists can refer you to Nottingham City GP Alliance Stop Smoking Service.

Travel Vaccinations

We offer travel advice and vaccinations at the surgery. Our practice nurse can assess your needs and recommend vaccines based on your completed questionnaire.

Please submit your travel questionnaire between 6 – 12 weeks before your departure to allow sufficient time for appointments and to ensure we have the most up-to-date information. If needed, the nurse may arrange a telephone consultation to discuss your travel plans in more detail.

Due to limited availability, you may need to visit a travel clinic for vaccinations (charges may apply).

For more information, contact the surgery.

  • Travel Questionnaire Assessment: Conducted by a qualified nurse to evaluate your travel needs. (see below if you would like to submit a questionnaire.)
  • Vaccination Administration: The clinician will administer the necessary (if any) vaccinations based on the assessment.
