Repeat prescriptions

We encourage our patients to re-order their prescriptions online where possible.

If you are registered with SystmOnline, please continue to re-order that way. If you are not and wish to order online, please download the NHS App and follow the on screen instructions to register. Use the App Store for I phone or Google Play for android.

Once registered you will be able to order your medication via the app.

Please note you have to be aged 13 or over to be able to register for the NHS app.

If you are unable to re-order your prescription online, please post your repeat through the letterbox at the front of no 37 St Mary’s Street. Please allow a minimum of 5 working days before collecting.

Collecting

If you are one of our dispensing patients, you can have your medication delivered directly to your home – for FREE.

More about repeat prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are checked by your doctor or an independent prescriber before being issued. On certain occasions the doctor, clinical pharmacist or independent prescriber may decide it is more appropriate to see you for an appointment rather than issuing further medicines. This decision is made by the prescriber and not by the dispensary staff.

Please request your medication from the surgery 7-10 days before it is required to allow your prescription to be generated, signed and then processed by the pharmacy of your choice.

Medication reviews

If you are a patient on repeat medication, you will usually be contacted by one of our medicines management team at least once a year to review your regular medications. You may need to attend for blood, urine tests and blood pressure checks and may be asked to send in some blood pressure readings if you have a monitor at home. There may also be questionnaires we ask you to complete.

Prepayment certificates

If you know you’ll have to pay for a lot of NHS prescriptions, it may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC). This is effectively a prescription ‘season ticket’.

A PPC covers all your NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need. You can choose to pay over three months or 12 months.

Out of hours prescriptions

If you should run out of your prescribed medication and need to obtain a further supply urgently, when our dispensary is closed, please visit a local chemist.

During out of hours, Urgent Care Cambridge can be contacted on 0330 123 9131 in the event of a medical emergency.

Opening hours for pharmacies based in or close to Ely can be found here.
