How to request your prescription:

Request Medication Online

The easiest way to request medications is online. There are three options available to do this:

  • SystmOnline (our preferred option)
  • NHS Account
  • PATCHS

It can be confusing to know which option to use. We have outlined the benefits and limitations of each option below so you can decide which works best for you. Select one of the options below for more information.

SystmOnline is our preferred option for patients to use when ordering medication. It works seamlessly with our own computer system (called SystmOne) which makes it much easier for both the patient and the surgery. Although you need to visit the surgery with photo ID to register, we encourage all our patients to use this option if possible.

Advantages

  • Allows you to log in and see all the medications on your repeat medication list
  • Allows you to order repeat medications directly from the SystmOnline website or app
  • If you don’t get your medications directly from the surgery dispensary, you can nominate a pharmacy for your medications to go to
  • Gives you the option of requesting medications which are not on your repeat medication list (for example a medication you may want as a one off)
  • In addition to medication ordering, you are able to view other parts of your medical records

How to get access to SystmOnline:

1. You need to visit the GP practice to request a SystmOnline username and password from our receptionist. This extra level or security is required as SystmOnline will give you direct access to parts of your medical records.  You will need to bring some photo ID, for example driving license or passport.

2. Once you have your username and password you can login via the web on https://systmonline.tpp-uk.com or download the app:

iPhone https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/airmid-uk/id1472749780

Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=px.mw.android.aihealth.patient.live.production&hl=en

You can order repeat medications by logging into your NHS account using the NHS app or NHS website.

Click here for a complete guide to using the NHS app

Click here for a video of how to use the NHS app to order repeat prescriptions (will link to YouTube)

Advantages

  • Allows you to log in and see all the medications on your repeat medication list
  • Allows you to order medications directly form the app
  • If you don’t get your medications directly from the surgery, you can nominate a pharmacy for your medications to go to
  • Allows you to see some other parts of your medical records
  • Uses an online verification system so you don’t have to visit the surgery

Disadvantages

  • If your medications need to be reauthorised by the doctor (which happens at least annually), it will disappear from the NHS App medication list until the reauthorisation process is complete. This can be confusing for the user as the medication will seem to have disappeared from the medication list. We often get patients contacting us querying this. SystmOnline does not have this limitation so your current medication will always be viewable on the app.
  • You are unable to request one off medications so will have to contact the surgery directly if you are asking for a medication which is not on your repeat prescription list

How to get access to an NHS account:

  1. You can create an NHS account via the NHS website https://www.nhsapp.service.nhs.uk/login
  2. Once your identity has been verified and you have a username and password you can login:

On the web: https://access.login.nhs.uk/enter-email

Downloading the NHS app to your device:

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/nhs-app/id1388411277

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nhs.online.nhsonline&hl=en

If you need help with the NHS app please visit this page from the NHS Digital Support Centre: https://nhs-digital.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb

We have an online consultation tool called PATCHS from which there is an option to order medication. This is our preferred option for carers looking after patients in care homes.

Advantages

  • If you have already registered for our online consultation tool PATCHS to contact the surgery for appointments, you can use the same login details
  • Easy to register from home as there is no need to attend the surgery with photo ID (this is because you can make requests, but can’t directly access your medical records using PATCHS)
  • You can ask for one off medications
  • Care homes have the option of registering multiple patients under a single username / password

Disadvantages

  • You cannot see the medications on your repeat medication list so need to manually enter each medication into a text box, which can be time consuming and prone to error
  • You cannot nominate a pharmacy

How to get access to PATCHS:

Visit the Humbleyard Practice PATCHS login screen and register for an account:

Using Repeat Prescription Paper Slip

If you have paper prescriptions, the GREEN slip is the actual prescription which you give to the pharmacist to obtain your medication. The WHITE side shows the list of drugs that you can order as repeat issues. We also call this the repeat re-order form. Please keep this as you need it to order more medication. To order more medication:

Please mark only those items that you need by ticking each item on the WHITE SLIP within 7 days of running out. Do not tick items that you do not need.

Medications Recommended From Hospital:

If you have seen a hospital specialist and they have recommended a course of treatment, this will not be actioned until your doctor has received a letter from the hospital specialist.

If the hospital specialist deems that you need to start a medication immediately, the specialist will provide you with a prescription at your outpatient appointment.

Over The Counter Medications:

We are unable to provide prescriptions for medications which can be purchased easily over the counter, for example antihistamines, cough medicines, simple pain relief and simple reflux treatment. You can find more information abut he NHS England policy here.
