#Cervical Cancer Prevention Week

Posted on:

During Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2025, GP Dr. Nighat and Bake Off star Laura Adlington will be featured in a series of videos discussing the important link between sex and cervical cancer. They will also address and debunk common misconceptions about cervical screening, helping to clear up any confusion and encourage more people to take part in this vital health test.

Cervical screening (formerly known as a smear test) is a free NHS health check available to women and individuals with a cervix aged 25 to 64. This test helps prevent cervical cancer by detecting human papillomavirus (HPV), which is spread through sexual contact.

Currently, in London, only 58% of people aged 25 to 49 attend cervical screening, while the attendance rate is higher at 70% for those aged 50 to 64. We strongly encourage everyone eligible to attend their cervical screening and take this important step in cancer prevention. For more details, please visit the official website.
