Your appointment
However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:
- by phone
- face to face at the surgery
- on a video call
- by text or email
Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.
Appointments for Health Checks
The NHS provides health checks every 5 years for adults in England aged 40 to 74 designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. An NHS health check is designed to help find ways to lower this risk. If you are in this age group and don’t have a pre-existing condition you can book a health check via reception. Patients aged over 75 are able to request an annual health check with their allocated accountable GP.

If you need help with your appointment
Please tell us:
- if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
- if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
- if you need an interpreter
- if you have any other access or communication needs
Home visits
If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.
To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the practice between 8.30am – 11.00am. Home visits requested after this time may be passed to the Out-of-Hours Service.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it, and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.
You can also be visited at home by a community Nurse if you are referred by your GP. You could also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
Text message reminder
We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.
To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.
Additional information
Referrals
Your GP will discuss with you and, if appropriate, your carer, why a referral is being recommended. You are usually referred because your GP wants a specialist’s help in deciding how best to treat your condition or they do not have the equipment at the surgery for the required tests and investigations.
If your GP needs to refer you to a consultant-led service for a physical or mental health condition, your GP will tend to refer you to a local hospital near where you live that is part of the local healthcare system.
If you decide to see a private consultant (either because you have private medical insurance or will pay the cost yourself) you will need a referral letter from the practice. Please allow a week for this to be prepared.
Late For Your Appointment
Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late, you may not be seen. If you are not seen, you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
Interpreter
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor, please notify the receptionist when making the appointment and she will arrange this for you.
