Repeat and Acute Medication
Acute medication is medication that has been issued by the surgery:
- At the start of a treatment plan
- For short term treatment
- Treatment for emergency conditions
Repeat medication is medication that you are taking on a regular basis. The list of your repeat medication can be found online or attached to your repeat prescription.
Repeat Prescriptions
The repeat prescription system enables patients to obtain supplies of medication already entered on the computer system by one of the practice clinicians for prescription on a repeatable basis.
Repeat prescriptions can be requested:
- Online – Please click on the following link and register for Patient Access. If you already book your appointments online your prescriptions will automatically show once you log on.
- In Person/In Writing – Preferably using the computer generated side-slip, ticking each item required.
- Email – thebeaumont@nhs.net, providing the patients full name, date of birth, and medication required.
- Community Pharmacy – Ask local pharmacies about their collection/delivery services for repeat prescriptions and requesting prescriptions on your behalf.
Please note: as a routine, we do not accept requests over the telephone or fax as of the 1st September 2024.
How long does it take for your prescription to be ready?
Any prescription will be issued at the doctor’s discretion. You might be asked to see a GP before an acute or repeat prescription is issued. This is to ensure safe prescribing.
Please ensure you request repeat prescriptions in plenty of time as we cannot process repeat prescriptions as emergencies.
Please allow two full working days (this does not include weekends or bank holidays) for your prescription to be processed, checked and signed.
How to collect your prescription
The Surgery provides an Electronic Prescribing Service where the prescription is sent electronically directly to the chemist of your choice so that you do not have to collect a prescription from the Surgery, but collect it straight from the chemist. To use this service, you need to nominate a chemist of your choice, by informing the surgery.
If you wish your prescription returned by post to you, please enclose a stamped addressed envelope and send it to the practice.
You can collect a prescription from our reception, however we prefer to send your prescription to a nominated pharmacy electronically instead.
Some chemists will collect your prescription from the surgery, please ask local pharmacies about their collection/delivery services for repeat prescriptions.
Medication reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
You may also be required to do regular blood tests to ensure your treatment is safe and effective.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment for your medication review to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Issues with medication
We do our best to process your requests as quickly and safely as possible. However, sometimes due to clinical protocols such as blood test, we may not be able to issue you everything without first speaking to or seeing you for clinical safety. Also there may be items that are out of stock or classed as a controlled drug that may need further approval before issuing.
If you do have any issues or experience delays, please do contact the practice at thebeaumont@nhs.net.
