Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • bring the paper form to the surgery and put your request in the black post box. At Park it is on the side of the building on the drive way, and at Broomfield it is next to the front door.
  •  Email the prescription team on kmicb.parksurgeryprescriptions@nhs.net This is helpful if you need to include a note, for example if you are requesting your medication early due to going on holiday.

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone.

Please note the most efficient way to order your medication is via the NHS App.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

  • Please allow three working days (72 hours) for your prescription to be processed.
  • We kindly request that all patients who can request their medication using an online service do so. Patients who do not have this option can put their paper request into the post box at Park or Broomfield.
  • If you have more than one repeat prescription, please try to order all your items together – Our prescription clerks can assist with putting your medications in to line if you have some items that are out of sync and running out at different times. Please ask reception to arrange this for you. A text will be sent to you to confirm how many of each tablet you have left and then a one off script will be issued to align.
  • If you are requesting past medication your doctor will need to decide whether this is appropriate and therefore it may take longer to process.
  • Prescription queries – please phone 01227 742568 between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm or 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday and choose option 2.
  • To avoid errors we cannot accept requests by telephone.
  • If you need to take drugs or medicines regularly your doctor may decide to supply some of the prescriptions without seeing you every time. You may be asked to attend the surgery periodically so that the medication can be reviewed. You will be informed that your review is due either by text or letter, please book this in as soon as possible as it may result in a delay in your medication being issued if we cannot safely prescribe.

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
