Acne Self-Management
Acne is a common skin condition that can cause spots, oily skin, and, in some cases, scarring. While it can be frustrating, there are effective self-care treatments available over the counter that can help manage symptoms before seeking medical treatment.
First Steps in Treating Acne
In most cases, acne can be managed with pharmacy treatments. We recommend trying an over-the-counter acne treatment such as:
✔️ Benzoyl peroxide creams or gels (e.g. Acnecide) – helps to reduce bacteria and unblock pores
✔️ Combination treatments (e.g. DUAC) – contains benzoyl peroxide and an antibiotic to reduce inflammation
✔️ A good-quality daily SPF – helps prevent post-acne scarring and protects the skin
For best results, these treatments should be used consistently for at least 6 weeks before assessing improvement.
