Managing Eye Infections & Irritations
Mild eye infections, dryness, and irritations are common and usually resolve with self-care.
Symptoms:
- Redness, itching, or watery eyes.
- Gritty sensation or mild swelling.
- Yellow or white discharge (bacterial conjunctivitis).
Self-care options:
- Conjunctivitis: Most cases are viral or allergic and do not need antibiotics. Use artificial tears and cool compresses.
- Dry eyes: Lubricating eye drops are available over the counter.
- Styes: Apply warm compresses to help drainage.
When to seek help:
- Severe pain, vision changes, or light sensitivity.
- Persistent symptoms lasting more than a week.
- Eye injury or foreign body in the eye.
