Non-urgent advice: Eltham Medical History
Eltham Medical Practice has a long history of providing high-quality primary care to the local community. The practice began around 75 years ago in a house next to The Court Yard building, founded by the Evans family. Several generations of the Evans family continued to practise there before moving into 28 Court Yard, which was later expanded and became known as Evans House.
In 1999, Dr Chauhan joined the last of the Evans family at what was still called The Court Yard Surgery. By 2003, the practice had acquired the Well Hall site, and with this expansion, it was rebranded as Eltham Medical Practice.
In 2015, the lease on the Court Yard building expired, prompting the practice to relocate to purpose-built facilities at Eltham Community Hospital, ensuring continued care for its growing patient population. Further expansion followed in 2019 with the merger of Eltham Park Surgery and Westmount Surgery, increasing capacity to meet the needs of the local community. The acquisition of an additional building allowed the practice to expand to 12 clinical rooms.
Eltham has seen significant development in recent years, driving up the local population. The area remains popular with young families due to its excellent state schools and rich history. Notably, Eltham is home to Eltham Palace, an English Heritage site that blends medieval architecture with 1930s Art Deco design, and the Tudor Barn, a 16th-century structure surrounded by historic gardens, now serving as a community hub.
Today, Eltham Medical Practice serves over 26,000 patients and is one of the largest GP practices in the Borough of Greenwich. It is also a key member of the Eltham Primary Care Network (PCN), working collaboratively with five other local GP surgeries to enhance patient care.
