Vaccinations

Routine vaccinations for all ages are available during surgery times by appointment with our nurses.

We offer a range of clinics and services here at London Lane Clinic for all your vaccination needs and advice.

Childhood Immunisations

One of the most important things that a parent can do for their child is to make sure that they have all their routine childhood vaccinations. It’s the most effective way of keeping them protected against infectious diseases.

Ideally, children should have their jabs at the right age to protect them as early as possible and minimise the risk of infection.

Find out which jabs your child needs, when they need them, and what the benefits of each jab are.

Please call the surgery to make an appointment.

Pneumococcal Vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine (or ‘pneumo jab’ or pneumonia vaccine as it’s also known) protects against pneumococcal infections.

Pneumococcal infections are caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae and can lead to pneumonia, septicaemia (a kind of blood poisoning) and meningitis.

Read more about why the pneumococcal vaccination is needed.

  • Who should have the pneumococcal vaccine?
    • A pneumococcal infection can affect anyone. However, some people need the pneumococcal vaccination because they are at higher risk of complications.
    • These include:
    • all children under the age of two
    • adults aged 65 or over
    • children and adults with certain long-term health conditions, such as a serious heart or kidney condition

Read more about who should have the pneumo jab.

  • How often is the pneumococcal vaccine given?
    • Babies receive the pneumococcal vaccine as three separate injections, at 2 months, 4 months and 12-13 months.
    • People over-65 only need a single pneumococcal vaccination which will protect for life. It is not given annually like the flu jab.
    • People with a long term health condition may need just a single one-off pneumococcal vaccination or five-yearly vaccination depending on their underlying health problem.

Blue Badge

If you are applying for a Blue Badge, all we can offer to support your application is a medical summary report with a surgery stamp on it. This is free of charge.

Physiotherapy – Self Referral for Bromley patients

If you are aged 18 years or older and have back, neck, joint or general muscle problems you can self-refer to physiotherapy without the need for a GP appointment.

You can still see your GP to be referred, but self-referral aims to give you rapid access direct (via physioDirect) to a physiotherapy telephone assessment.

The physiotherapist can assess you over the phone to understand your needs and expectations and assist in providing advice and guidance about your condition. This will include agreeing on appropriate next step in your care. This may be self-management, an exercise class, face-to-face physiotherapy, or an onward referral to hospital.

If you feel you would benefit from this service, all you have to do is call 01689 88 77 10. The phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am-4pm.  Outside of these times you will be able to leave a voicemail and they will return your call as soon as they can.

When you call, a member of the team will register you on their system. It would be helpful if you could have your NHS number to hand.

For more information, visit the Vita Health Group website: www.vitahealthgroup.co.uk

We also have a First Contact physiotherapist based at London Lane Clinic. First contact physiotherapists (FCPs) are specialist physiotherapists with extensive expertise in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

Patients with MSK conditions can bypass the appointment with a GP, and go straight to get help with a specialist physiotherapist. Instead of the traditional method where you are seen by a GP then referred for a physio appointment which can take up to 6 weeks or more, you can book an appointment directly with a physiotherapist via the receptionist, which means you won’t need to wait for a referral from a doctor.

Phlebotomy (blood taking) Clinics

We offer a very limited number of phlebotomy (blood taking) sessions a week here at London Lane. It is by appointment only and for patients over 18.

Alternatively, please book an appointment at one of the other surgeries in the area that offer phlebotomy clinics via the Bromley Community Phlebotomy Service. www.bromleygpalliance.co.uk

  • Summercroft Surgery – BR6 7AR
  • Ballater Surgery – BR6 0DP
  • Orpington Health & Wellbeing Centre – BR6 0FE
  • Dysart Surgery – BR1 1HN
  • Eden Park Surgery – BR3 4DQ
  • Park Practice – SE20 8QA
  • Orpington Hospital – BR6 9JU
  • Beckenham Beacon – BR3 3QL

If you are unable to book online, please call 0203 930 0245. Please do NOT call the surgeries direct.

Please note that you will need to pick up your blood test request form from the surgery before attending your appointment at one of the alternative clinics. We are unable to email out blood test requests forms.

Midwifery Service

A midwife is available within the practice. Midwives are keen to see pregnant women early on in their pregnancy. If you think you are pregnant, you can do a self referral to the hospital of your choice using that hospital’s website.

You will usually be seen by a midwife according to a schedule of appointments. Please see separate section on the Midwifery Service for details.

Please note that whilst there is a Midwife Service run at London Lane clinic, it is NOT run by London Lane Clinic. We are not involved in the booking of midwife appointments.

For any queries, please contact the Midwife team direct on 0300 330 5777.

Infrequent Attenders

If you are aged 16 – 75 and have not seen a doctor or nurse at the practice in the last 3 years, or are over 75 and have not been seen for the last 12 months, you are welcome to make an appointment with a nurse to have a physical health check.

It is useful to have up-to-date information on your medical records to provide baseline information in case you have health problems in the future.

HRT

Please be aware that patients on HRT require 6 monthly reviews. To continue on this type of medication, please book an appointment with a health care assistant.

Health Visiting Service

The service offers support and encouragement to families through the early years from pregnancy and birth to primary school. Every family with children under 5 has a named health visitor. Information on the health visiting service should be in the personal child health record (Red Book).

Health visitors are qualified nurses who have undertaken further specialist training in child and family health and child development.

Contact them via Bromley Healthcare team at the Phoenix Children’s Resource Centre at https://www.bromley0to19.co.uk or call 0300 330 5777.

Please make sure you make an appointment with the health care assistant for these reviews.

Emergency Contraception

If you’ve forgotten to take your pill, your condom split or you’ve had unprotected sex in the last 72 hours then you may need emergency contraception, and the sooner you take it the better.

Emergency contraception is available free from Contraception and Sexual Health Services, some GPs (family doctors) and most pharmacies (chemists), even if you’re under 16.

If you’ve had unprotected sex or your condom failed, it is also really important to consider your risk for sexually transmitted infections and to think about your long-term contraception needs. Please phone the surgery to book an emergency appointment.

If you miss the 72 hours it is still possible to have an emergency coil fitted up to 5 days after unprotected sex. You can have an emergency coil fitted for free at your local sexual health clinic.

Neonatal Checks

Some newborn babies are released from hospital without a detailed examination. If this is the case, our GPs are happy to perform the relevant checks, either in the surgery, or in comfort of your own home, depending on which is easier for you.

In most cases, the Practice will contact new mums to arrange for this to happen, on rare occasions where we are unaware of the birth, please feel free to give us a call and arrange an appointment or visit.

Postnatal Care

Postnatal care extends for between 6-8 weeks after the birth of your baby. During this period, routine checks are carried out by the health visitor and you and your baby’s recovery is monitored.

During your postnatal care you will find out about feeding, potty training, illnesses, safety and more. You will be able to ask your health visitor questions and request advice.
