How to Make an Appointment
We are now Total Triage:
Following the new GP contract changes introduced on 1st October 2025, GP practices must now keep their online consultation system open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:30pm (excluding bank holidays).
Since this change, demand for GP appointments has tripled, and in order to continue providing safe and timely care, we are moving to a Total Triage model.
What This Means for You
From Monday, 10th November 2025, the following changes will apply:
• All requests for a GP appointment will need to be triaged by a GP first.
• Patients will no longer be able to pre-book GP appointments directly with reception.
* You will be asked to complete an online consultation form
* If you are unable to complete the form yourself, our reception team will help you by completing it on your behalf.
• Once your form has been reviewed, a GP will assess your request and determine the most appropriate next step. The GP will respond to your online query via NHS App, SMS, email or phone call over the course of the day
This may include:
* A same-day, next-day, or later appointment with a GP (depending on clinical need)
* An appointment with another clinician (e.g. nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist, etc.)
* Referral to an external service such as Pharmacy First, Minor Eye Care, or Talking Therapies etc.
*Please ensure we hold the correct mobile and email address for you.
The GP’s decision following this assessment will determine the outcome offered by reception.
If the GP decides the patient needs a same day or next day appointment – Receptionist will call the patient to book them in. Any other appointment request, the GP will text the patient with a booking link which the patient can then call and book the follow-up appointment as per GP’s instructions.
Why We’re Making This Change
The Total Triage model is already used successfully across many GP practices in the UK.
It ensures that every patient gets the right help, at the right time, in the right place, from the right clinician or service.
This approach allows us to manage the growing demand more safely and effectively.
Other Appointments
There are no changes to how you book appointments with our:
- Physiotherapists
and other allied health professionals.
- Nurses
- Mental Health Practitioners
- Phlebotomists
- Social Prescribers
You can use the online consultation form also for :
- Non-urgent clinical requests
- Repeat prescription requests and medication queries
- Administrative requests
FAQs
- What if I don’t agree with the GP’s decision on type of appointment offer?
The GP will make their own clinical judgment based on the information you have provided in your online form. So, please ensure you provide enough information for the GP to properly assess your medical need. If possible, attach proof or pictures to help aid a decision.
There are a number of extended roles that have been introduced to general practice over the last few years which frees up the GP to be able to concentrate on the acutely ill and complex patients; so if the GP feels you are best seen by one of these extended roles, such as a pharmacist, practice nurse, mental health practitioner, Physio etc. Please give it a go, as you will be amazed at what they can now do for you.
The receptionists can only follow the advice of the GP and cannot change their outcome. If you feel you are not happy with the decision, please submit another online form, highlighting further information. Note: we will only review the same condition request twice and the GP second opinion will be final. If you do feel your concern is more urgent you can visit Get help for your symptoms – NHS 111, call 111, or 999 in a life-threatening situation.
2. I want to see a specific GP
Once a GP has reviewed your online consultation form, they will send a booking link, this is to book with any GP. In order to book with a specific GP on receipt of this message. Please call the surgery. Note: there may be a longer wait to see your preferred GP due to appointment availability.
Cancelling / Amending (reschedule) Your Appointment
When you receive an appointment at the Practice, please ensure that you arrive on time for an in person appointment.
For telephone consultations please ensure you are available to answer the telephone with a good signal if you have a mobile phone.
The clinicians will call you as near as they can to your appointment time but please allow flexibility around this time.
If you can no longer make your appointment, it is very important you let the practice know so this can be offered to another patient. A lot of money is wasted in the NHS every year by patients who do not attend a booked appointment.
If you receive an appointment reminder via text message and want to cancel it, you can text back CANCEL which will immediately cancel the appointment. Alternatively, you can call your practice to cancel your appointment or cancel via the NHS APP.
If you would prefer to amend (reschedule) your appointment rather than cancel it. Please call the surgery in the first instance as soon as possible as we can offer you the next suitable appointment.
We now operate a Did Not Attend Policy for patients who fail to cancel appointments.
Home Visits
Home visits are only offered to patients who are housebound or too unwell to come to the surgery. Whenever possible, please attend the surgery, as we have better equipment and facilities to assess you properly.
If you need a home visit, please call Reception on 020 8462 1601 before 10:30am. The receptionist will take your details and complete an online triage form for the GP to review.
Please note: this does not guarantee a home visit. The GP will decide after reviewing your information.
You can also submit your own online request — just make sure to state clearly that you are asking for a home visit.
Best times to call the Surgery
The Surgery is usually busier at the start of the week. You may prefer to call later in the week instead.
