Repeat Prescriptions – Please register for online access.
Ordering your prescription online provides a safer, quicker service for you. Online requests avoid potential medication errors. This will save you time and money as you will not need to make a special trip to the surgery to order your prescription. You can also nominate a chemist for your prescription to be sent to directly.
We cannot accept requests over the telephone.
Non-urgent advice:
Two full working days notice are required for repeat prescriptions.
Three full days for new or altered prescriptions.
Hospital Prescriptions
The NHS hospital contract states that your hospital doctor is responsible for providing you with a prescription when you attend outpatients. Some consultants may not do this which creates a delay before we get their letter and can add the medication to your list. Please ask them to provide you with a prescription at your appointment.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication may be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse to review these regular medications. We will contact you if a medication review is required.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
NHS charges
The current prescription charge is £9.65 per item.
A prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) could save you money on NHS prescription costs:
- a 3-month PPC costs £31.25
- a 12-month PPC is £111.60
- a 12-month PPC for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) only is £19.30

Long Term Steroids

Please Print and carry this steroid card with you in case you become unwell. Cards may be available from your pharmacy.
All patients with primary adrenal insufficiency, such as those with Addison’s disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and hypothalamo-pituitary damage from tumours or surgery, are steroid dependent.
Some patients who take oral, inhaled or topical steroids for other medical conditions may develop secondary adrenal insufficiency and be steroid dependent
Omission of steroids for patients with adrenal insufficiency can lead to adrenal crisis; a medical emergency which if left untreated can be fatal.
Patients with adrenal insufficiency require higher doses of steroids if they become acutely ill or are subject to major body stressors, such as from trauma or surgery, to prevent an adrenal crisis.
