The NHS provides most health care free of charge. However there are a number of other services for which fees are chargeable. Services not covered by the NHS include things such as medical reports for insurance companies, medical reports for PCV / LGV drivers, letters for fitness to travel, copies of medical records, holiday cancellations etc.
If a GP is required to write a letter, sign a certificate or complete any kind of medical report, it is a professional duty that they check the accuracy of the information. This may involve examining the patient’s entire medical record.
Such work is time consuming and is carried out on a first come first serve basis. Generally the timescale for the completion for this type of work is between 4 and 6 weeks depending on the complexity and the level of detail required. Timescales are also effected by the number of requests we get. There is a fixed amount of time and resource available so, if we have numerous requests, timescales for completion may be longer.
Fees are based on the amount of time it takes and how complex it is to complete the work. See link below.
If you require a letter or report to be completed you need to provide all the information necessary in writing. This should include the reason for the report, who it is for and your express consent for us to share your confidential medical information. If we don’t have this information this will cause a delay in the completion of the work. You also need to allow enough time for the work to be completed.
