A Guide to our Appointments System

Surgeries are by appointment only.

You may make an appointment to see the doctor by telephoning the surgery on 01761 470880. For routine appointments it is better to see the same doctor so that you may get to know each other well. You will be offered the first available appointment.

Urgent problems will be seen the same day, but not necessarily by the doctor of your choice.

We have special arrangements for HGV, elderly driver, sports, insurance and employment medicals. Please ask the receptionist for details.

Patients can also book appointments online with SystmOnline via the link at the top of this page.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Text Message Reminders

You can now register to receive information by text message on your phone regarding appointments and health care.

If you wish to register for this messaging service please contact the practice.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

We ask patients to come to the surgery when they can because we have the right tools and equipment there. But we know this is not always possible. If you need a home visit, please call reception before 11:00.

You can ask for a home visit only if you are housebound or too ill to come to the practice. Your GP will visit you at home only if they believe your condition requires it. They will also decide how urgent the visit is. Please be ready to give clear details about your illness so the doctor can plan the visit.

A community nurse may also visit you at home if your GP refers you. You may also receive a visit from a health visitor if you have a new baby or if you are new to the practice and have a child under five.

Missed Appointments

Missing appointments can cause problems and may stop other patients from seeing the GP they need.

To help with this, the practice has this policy:

  • If you miss two appointments in a row without informing us, we will write to you to ask if something is preventing you from contacting us.
  • If you miss another appointment without telling us, you may be removed from the practice list and will need to find a new GP.
