Non-urgent advice: Notice

As of the 1st May the surgery will be changing the way in which you can order your repeat prescriptions. We’ll be asking you to order your medicines either in writing, or electronically.

This decision has been made following guidance from NHS England and will allow us time to accurately review and safely order medications. It will also help reduce the phone lines allowing patients phoning for appointments, advice or in urgent need of help to get through.

You can order repeat prescriptions in several ways

  • Online – Follow the link at the top of this page to order your repeat medication. If you have not already signed up to patient online access please contact the surgery.
  • In person – Drop your repeat slip in the box provided in reception with the required items clearly marked. Blank forms are also available from reception.
  • By post – Send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you.
  • By email – [email protected] Please do not request anything other than prescriptions via this email account as only these requests will be dealt with.

Some pharmacies also offer ordering services on behalf of patients. Please speak to the relevant pharmacy should you wish to explore this option.

If you are housebound and cannot order via the methods suggested please telephone reception making it clear you are housebound and ask for help.

How Long to Process my Request?

Please allow FIVE FULL WORKING DAYS

Things to Remember

Plan Ahead: Order your medication in good time to ensure you don’t run out. Remember, we need FIVE FULL WORKING DAYS to process your request.

Only order what you need: Please do not stockpile medication, some may only have short use by dates and will then need to be thrown away. Please only order what you need.

From 1st May 2019 we are no longer able to offer a telephone repeat prescription ordering service except for those few patients who are housebound and unable to utilise any of the above methods of ordering.

Electronic Prescribing

If you get regular or repeat prescriptions, you could save time by switching to electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD).

eRD sends your prescriptions electronically from your GP surgery to a pharmacy of your choice. It’s easy to use and you don’t need a computer or electronic device. Ask your GP or pharmacist to set it up for you.

eRD allows your GP to prescribe your regular medicines for up to a year. It’s reliable, secure and confidential. Your regular prescriptions are stored securely on the NHS database, so they’ll be ready at the pharmacy each time you need them.

Using eRD you can

  • save time by avoiding unnecessary trips or calls to your GP every time you need to order a repeat prescription
  • order or cancel your repeat prescriptions online (if your GP practice offers this service)
  • pick up your repeat prescriptions directly from your pharmacy without having to visit your GP
  • spend less time waiting for your prescription in the pharmacy or GP practice
  • save paper – you won’t need a paper prescription to collect your medicine from the pharmacy
For more information about eRD and how it works, ask at your GP surgery or pharmacy, or visit the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/eRD
