Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • fill out a repeat prescriptions request form which are outside the dispensary hatch (if possible when you collect your prescription please fill out a monthly request form)
  • bring the paper form to the surgery and place in the prescription box, or, if you need to check any items please do so in dispensary opening hours.
  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone, email or via online consults

Non-urgent advice: Further Information Regarding Medication

We are often asked why a medication is not on “repeat” so that you can just ask for it whenever you want. There are various reasons. These include:

If it is new, this is because we want feedback from you to say it is or isn’t helping. It might have been suggested by a consultant. There may have also been a delay in hospital documents coming to us.

If our doctors want to monitor how much of something you are using, they won’t put it on repeat. It doesn’t mean you can’t have it, it just means that dispensary has to ask a doctor. This enables the doctor to communicate with a patient if they are concerned about risks or side effects especially with long term use. This applies to, for example, addictive analgesia, or oral or topical steroids.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the dispensary 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

If you are a non-dispensing patient you will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice/dispensary

Medication delivery service

This is only available on a Thursday.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, please call the dispensary and they will help or redirect your query to the GP.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

  • phone our dispenser on 01886 880 207 and press option 2 for dispensary. The line is open 9:30am to 1pm and again 3:30pm – 5:30pm Monday – Friday.
  • fill in an online consult

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Please take it to the pharmacy or dispensary you got it from. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet. We only take medication if we dispensed it.
