What is Kooth?

Kooth provides free, accessible mental health and wellbeing support for young people aged 11–25.

It offers a safe space to address challenges like anxiety, stress, self-harm, and depression through live counselling, messaging, online forums, activities, and articles.

Kooth Online Mental Wellbeing community-  https://connect.kooth.com/young-people

Kooth is a web based confidential support service, providing a safe and secure means of accessing mental health and wellbeing support designed specifically for young people.

Kooth offers young people the opportunity to have a text-based conversation with a qualified counsellor. Counsellors are available from 12noon to 10pm on weekdays and 6pm to 10 pm at weekends, every day of the year on a drop-in basis. Young people can access regular booked online counselling sessions as needed. Outside counselling hours young people can message the team and get support by the next day.

When a young person registers with Kooth they will have support available to them now and in the future. Support can be gained not only through counselling but articles, forums and discussion boards.  All content is age appropriate, clinically approved and fully moderated.

To find out more visit www.Kooth.com where young people can register and others can find out more about the service.

In the UK, the NHS routine immunisation (vaccination) schedule protects you against a number of diseases, but does not cover all of the infectious diseases found overseas.

Some vaccines need to be given well in advance to allow your body to develop immunity and some vaccines involve a number of doses spread over several weeks or months.

You may be more at risk of some diseases, for example, if you’re:

  • travelling in rural areas
  • backpacking
  • staying in hostels or camping
  • on a long trip rather than a package holiday

If you have a pre-existing health problem, this may make you more at risk of infection or complications from a travel-related illness.

TRAVEL VACCINATION COSTS

Not all travel vaccinations are available free on the NHS, even if they’re recommended for travel to a certain area. Some non-NHS travel vaccines incur a charge and we will let you know what this is during your consultation.

In this appointment a package of support will be agreed with the parent.

The clinic will run as follows;

A parent will need to book a 45 minute appointment in advance of the clinic; all bookings via Parenting Team: parenting.team@shropshire.gov.uk or Telephone 01743 250950

District Nurses

District nurses or community nurses work together in Inter Disciplinary Teams with occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other workers to deliver community health services to patients in their own homes.

They provide services for housebound patients.

There is an open referral process, this means that patients that need nursing care at home can be referred into the service by a GP or other relevant health care professional.

If you think you need nursing care at home you can call them directly on 01588 676323

The teams deliver urgent and planned care to patients helping to prevent avoidable admissions to a main hospital and to promote a healthy lifestyle as well as to maximise independence at home.

Teams also work closely with partner agencies to deliver end of life (palliative) care to patients and their families, supporting people to die at home if this is their preferred choice.

They also work with other services in the community.

Nurses or therapists that you may see may also refer you to other members of the multidisciplinary team if you need more specialist advice and support.

Ludlow Minor Injuries Unit

The Minor Injury Unit (MIU) is staffed by experienced nurses, and patients that attend will be assessed and treated as quickly as possible. If your condition cannot be dealt with at the Minor Injuries Unit, then you will be referred to your GP or nearest Accident and Emergency department (A&E) or to another appropriate service.

The Minor Injuries Units offer treatment to anyone with a minor injury. There is no age limit.

This is a walk-in service and you do not need to be referred or to make an appointment, but please note the Minor Injuries Unit is not open 24 hours. It is currently open from 8:00am until 8:00pm every day of the week.

Your GP or other healthcare professionals may refer you to the MIU, and some patients are brought into the units by the ambulance service.

Staff at the Minor Injuries Unit treat:

  • Bites, human and animal
  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Foreign bodies in the eyes, nose and ears
  • Fractures that require plaster only
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Minor head injuries (with no loss of consciousness)
  • Soft tissue injuries, for example sprains and bruises
  • Wound infections

We do not see patients suffering from the following:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Alcohol-related problems
  • Breathing problems
  • Chest pain
  • Drug overdose
  • Gynaecology problems
  • Health conditions usually treated by a GP
  • Mental health problems

If you have any of the above conditions you should contact your GP, or, if it is a life-threatening injury or situation, then call for an ambulance by dialling 999.

Non-NHS Services (Private GP Services)

Private practice is significantly restricted in terms of NHS registered patients for GMS (general medical services).

New contractual regulations introduced in October 2019, restrict GP practices from offering or advertising – during NHS working time and on NHS funded property – private services to anyone (whether a registered patient or not), if those services fall within the scope of primary medical services.

Some services however are not within the scope of primary care services and therefore are not covered by the NHS and a charge will be made in line with the BMA scale of fees.

These include medical examinations e.g.:

  • HGV licence
  • Employment medicals
  • Driving insurance etc
  • Assessment of capacity for Power of Attorney

as well as certain certificates e.g.:

  • Private insurance claims
  • Private sick notes Holiday cancellations etc.

Services outside the scope of the NHS will be charged according to a list of recommended fees. The list can be downloaded by clicking on the link below, it can also be found in the waiting room.

Private Fees

Non NHS services include:

  • HGV and PSV medicals
  • Insurance company reports and medicals
  • Private certificates
  • Holiday cancellation
  • Medical insurance reports/forms
  • Pre-employment medicals
  • Vaccination certificates, etc.

The above list is not exhaustive.

Please inquire at reception if you are not sure of the cost when handing in your form for completion.

Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows someone to act for you or make decisions on your behalf if you are no longer able to do so yourself. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney; one for Personal Welfare and one for Property and Affairs. In order to be valid the lasting Power of Attorney must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian.

Anyone who is aged 18 or older and has the mental ability to make decisions for him/herself can choose to give Power of Attorney to relatives or people that they trust.

The following websites have more detailed information about what a Power of Attorney is, how to set one up and what are the costs of doing so.

Applying for a Power of Attorney

You can apply for a Power of Attorney online

The forms need to be signed before sending them off to the Office of the Public Guardian.

Portcullis GPs provide non-NHS services in relation to Power of Attorney applications. Because these services do not fall under those provided by the NHS, there are fees associated with this.

As at February 2018 the fees charged are as follows:

  • Countersignature of a Power of Attorney application, no medical examination required £105
  • Countersignature of a Power of Attorney application, with medical assessment for capacity or home visit £155

N.B. Other professionals, such as solicitors, also provide services in relation to Power of Attorney applications.
