Barton Family Practice News

I would like to thank Dr Okoye for providing the news for ‘Barton Chime’ over the years, and to inform you that I will endeavor to keep you updated from February onwards, assisted by Louise Smith (our Practice Manager) to enable Dr Okoye to prepare for his retirement in April. We will provide you with up to date information relating to our services and any future health education events, we hope to provide in 2025.

Many of you may know me as ‘Sister Rose Bain’ at the surgery. Having worked at the surgery for the last 31 years.

In the October edition, Dr Okoye informed you that I had been awarded the title of ‘Queens Nurse’. The photo depicts me having received my award in London in November. I was presented by Dame Elizabeth Anionwu (she was the dignitary that carried the sovereign Orb during King Charles III coronation procession).

Queen’s Nurses origin dates back to 1877 with a grant by Queen Victoria. An institute was formed with instigated the co-ordination of the national standards of District Nurses. This award is in recognition  of nurses working in a community setting. There are 3,000 Queens Nurses in the UK and I am proud to be one of them.

As a Queen’s Nurse I am committed to patient care, learning and leadership and hope to fulfil part of this role by serving my community by providing news relating to the surgery, each month.

My chosen topic for the month – ‘Health Checks’

If you are aged 40-74 and live in Staffordshire and not under the care of the GP for a pre-existing condition such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Then you could call 0333 005 0095 or text HEART to 60777 to book a health check. If you are a registered patient at our surgery you can book to attend the ‘ Everyone Health’ service at Barton Surgery on a Thursday.

If you are registered elsewhere then please view venues at https://staffordshire.everyone-health.co.uk/nhs-health-check-roadshow or call the above the number and not the surgery number.

The health check is to spot the early signs of stroke, heart attack and Type 2 Diabetes.

If you have not had your blood pressure checked in the last 5 years we would encourage you to get it checked.
