If you’re planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.
Our practice nurses are available by appointment to offer medical advice regarding travel and vaccinations where appropriate
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible – at least 6 weeks before you travel – as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
- Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Are you up to date with your immunisations? Ask the practice.
Advice on Immunisation
We strongly recommend that all children and babies are immunised against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, MMR and HIB. Thankfully, these serious illnesses are rarely seen nowadays due to the high uptake of vaccination.
Whooping cough (pertussis) causes a very distressing illness with severe prolonged coughing and can cause permanent lung damage. Risk from this vaccination has been greatly overstated in the past. We strongly recommend that all babies have this vaccination along with their other baby jabs. If you have any worries or queries about any aspect of your child’s immunisation, please ask a doctor or nurse.
Cervical smears are recommended routinely every three years for all women between the age of 25 and 50 years and from 50 to 65 every five years (except those who have had a hysterectomy).
We provide a full range of contraceptive services, including coil (IUD), cap (diaphragm) fitting and Implanon fittings. You can discuss this further by making an appointment with the doctor.
A planned programme of developmental checks is provided up to the age of five. The community health visitor also runs clinics for development checks.
