GP Training

Parbold Surgery is an accredited training practice.

Trainee Doctors at the Practice
Doctors spend many years in training before becoming fully qualified GPs.

  • Medical School – 5 years of study.
  • Foundation Training – 2 years working as junior doctors in hospitals and the community.
  • Specialist Training – After foundation training, doctors choose either:
    • General Practice: 3 additional years, or
    • Hospital Specialty: around 5 additional years.

In the final year of GP training, doctors are called GP Registrars. They spend 1 year working in a training practice, like ours, under the supervision of experienced GPs.

This means that if you see a junior doctor here, they are usually in their 10th year of medical training and are fully qualified doctors gaining specialist GP experience.

Our current junior doctors are:

Dr Zaheer Ahmed (m)

Dr Farrukh Atique (m)

Dr Rebecca France (f)

Dr Curtis Mitchell (m)

Dr Mohamed Zayed (m)

Appointments with Junior Doctors

You may be offered an appointment with one of our junior doctors. Occasionally, you might be asked if your consultation can be recorded for training purposes.

Your choice – You can say no at any time, either before or after the consultation. This will not affect your care in any way.

How recordings are used – Videos are used only for training, for example to help doctors develop their communication skills.

Who sees them – Recordings are viewed by the doctor together with their GP Trainer. A small number may also be reviewed by other doctors outside the practice. No non-medical staff ever view these recordings.
