Our appointment system

We have a number of types of appointments to try to use the available times in the best way.

We have urgent availability for on the day, some pre-bookable for non-urgent problems and some bookable within a week for reviews for problems that are not urgent but cannot wait until the next routine appointment.  We also offer online consultations for routine issues and requests.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Chaperones

During more intimate examinations, the Doctor will ask for a chaperone to be present in the room. This will either be one of the nurses if available, or a member of the admin staff who have been trained. This is intended to protect both the patient and the doctor.  Your privacy will be protected at all times. Patients are also welcome to request a chaperone.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.

Home visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10:00 if you require a home visit.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. A GP may telephone you  first to get more information with regards to this. Please ensure your contact details are up to date with the practice.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
