A First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) provides advice and exercise programs and decide on the most appropriate management pathway, which includes investigations, onward referrals for physiotherapy or orthopaedic appointments.
FCP’s are physiotherapists with expertise in the assessment and management of Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
We will provide MSK assessment and first line advice. We are able to offer follow up input if this is required but the FCP role is not to provide an course of physiotherapy (We would refer these patients to the MSK service if this is required) .
Given the long waits for the MSK service , we suggest we see any patients you may be planning to refer in to ensure that all appropriate first line MSK management has been maximised ,give context on potential further imaging or interventions and can advise on pathways as we all also work for the core Leeds Community Healthcare MSK service.
