Obesity Support
As per the World Health Organization (WHO),
“Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health.”
The most widely used method to check if you’re a healthy weight is body mass index (BMI).
BMI is a measure of whether you’re a healthy weight for your height and is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. It is defined as a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of his height in meters (kg/m2).
BMI is not used to diagnose obesity because people who are very muscular can have a high BMI without much fat.
For most people, BMI is a useful indication of whether they’re a healthy weight.
People with a South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean family background are prone to central adiposity and their cardiometabolic risk occurs at lower BMI.
For South Asian people:
Overweight: BMI 23 kg/m2 to 27.4 kg/m2
Obesity: BMI 27.5 kg/m2 or above
Consequences of being obese / overweight:
An obese patient is 20% or more heavier than their ideal weight.
Excess body weight is an important public health problem because it is associated with:
type II diabetes mellitus
hypertension and stroke
hyperlipidaemia
some cancers
At Woodlands Health Centre Islamabad, we have access to an experienced nutritionist to support our overweight and obese clients with their weight management, in addition to pharmacological interventions.

Mental Health
Mental health illnesses are common; around 1 in 5 people have some kind of mental health condition.
Common mental health illnesses include anxiety, depression and psychotic disorders.
These illnesses negatively affect lives and lead to poor functioning, causing serious consequences including loss of life.
People usually don’t come forward for treatment for several reasons which include stigma, lack of information and lack of services.
At Woodlands Health Centre Islamabad we aim to provide evidence based information, assessment and management services of mental health illnesses.
Health Checks
During a health check, you will be asked questions about your lifestyle and family history, your height and weight will be measured (to calculate your BMI), your blood pressure will be taken and a blood test will requested. The blood test will be done following the initial consultation.
Your blood test results can show your chances of getting heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and diabetes.
If you’re over 65, you will also be told the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for.
You will then receive personalised advice to improve your risk.
This could include talking about:
how to improve your diet and the amount of physical activity you do
taking medicines to lower your blood pressure or cholesterol
