Doctors

Dr Carla Rowe

MBChB DRCOG DFFP MRCGP
Born in 1970 I qualified in 1993 from Birmingham Medical School. After working in various hospitals in the Midlands, I spent some time working in Accident & Emergency in New Zealand. On returning to the UK I moved down to Cornwall and have been a GP in the county since 1997.

I run the young persons clinic with Karen Morris, and am a trainer for our GP Registrars. I am married and live near Truro.

Outside of work I am kept busy looking after our 2 energetic young children. When not providing a taxi service to various school and social activities I love to escape for long walks with our black Labrador Jess.

I enjoy dealing with the wide variety of problems encountered in General Practice and feel privileged to be part of such an enthusiastic and caring primary care team. My areas of special interest are young persons services, contraception and sexual health.

Dr Benjamin Penfold

BMBS MRCGP
Having completed my medical school training in Cornwall, it was clear to me that Cornwall is an amazing place to live, and this is where I wanted to settle. I qualified from Peninsula Medical School in 2008. After graduating, I completed my junior doctor years at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and West Cornwall Hospital. I briefly left Cornwall to get some A&E experience in New Zealand prior to returning to Cornwall to train as a GP. After a brief spell of being a locum I was lucky enough to join Rosmellyn Surgery in 2016.

Although I really enjoy the variety of being a GP, I particularly enjoy sports injury, mental health and the complexity of chronic disease management. Within Rosmellyn, I perform minor procedures for our patients and work alongside Addaction in managing drug addiction. Along with Dr Rowe, I also train GP trainees that are placed within our surgery.

Alongside working at Rosmellyn I currently work one day a week in the Urgent Treatment Centre at West Cornwall Hospital managing acute injuries and illness.

When not at work, I try to get out and enjoy the Cornish coast and sea, depending on what the weather and tides allow….

Dr Ed Schwarz

GP
I graduated from Peninsula Medical School in 2011 and then did my Junior Doctor years across the South West, working alongside Dr Tunstall in North Devon. I then went to New Zealand where I worked as a Resident Medical officer across a variety of specialties including Emergency Department. I completed my GP training in Cornwall before taking up the role as GP Partner at Rosmellyn.

I have a keen interest in medical education, having completed my PgCert Clin Ed and currently work with the Medical school.

I am proud to be joining the team in the new Medical Centre and truly believe and hope we can deliver effective and safe healthcare to the population of Penzance, whilst maintaining the core values of general practice and being a ‘family physician’.

Dr Georgie Prescott

GP
I studied at Peninsula Medical School, graduating in 2011 and then completed my Foundation Doctor years in Cornwall. I went on to work in Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine in Edinburgh for two years before deciding that I wanted to pursue a career in General Practice in the South West. Having completed my General Practice Training in 2021, I started working at Rosmellyn at the start of 2022.

I also work for the Out of Hours Service, and I have a particular interest in Palliative Care. I also have a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education.

I have 2 young children who keep me very busy when I am not at work. I love living in Cornwall as I am naturally drawn to anything involving the sea including paddle boarding, swimming, surfing, wind surfing, sailing and wing foiling. I also like to do a bit of running when I have the time.

Dr Alexa Hollow

GP
I studied at St George’s Hospital Medical School in Tooting, and stayed on in South West London for my junior doctor training. I then moved to Bristol and started my General Practice Training working across community and hospital based jobs. I completed my final years of GP training in Cornwall before starting at Rosmellyn.

I have a young family who keep me busy but in my spare moments I enjoy gardening, swimming, yoga and paddle boarding.

I love the variety of General Practice, and am especially interested in sexual and reproductive health and palliative care.
