Getting your test results
If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you. This treatment plan should have been discussed before the tests (i.e. bloods) were done.
Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them in your NHS account – through the NHS website or NHS App or on your SystmOne account.
What do they mean?
Interpreting blood test results can be complex, and it is important to consult with a healthcare professional and not the internet for a comprehensive understanding. We won’t normally contact you to report normal, satisfactory or unremarkable test results. You will be able to access these via your online account. They will be available when a doctor has reviewed and ‘filed’ them. Please allow ten working days for results to be on your online account.
Normal
Generally, “normal” blood test results indicate that the values fall within the established reference range for a healthy individual. These ranges can vary based on factors such as age, sex, and specific laboratory standards.
It is important to remember that “normal” ranges can vary, and results should be interpreted in the context of your overall health and medical history.
Satisfactory
“Satisfactory” blood test results generally mean that the values fall within the expected reference range for a healthy individual, indicating no immediate concerns or abnormalities. This suggests that the specific aspects of health being tested are functioning well and do not show signs of disease or disorder.
However, it is important to note that “satisfactory” results should always be interpreted in the context of your overall health, medical history, and any symptoms you may be experiencing. Factors such as age, sex, and existing health conditions can influence what is considered “satisfactory.”
Unremarkable
“Unremarkable” test results mean that the findings are normal and do not show any abnormalities or issues that require further investigation. In medical terms, “unremarkable” is a positive indication, suggesting that everything appears to be functioning as expected and there are no signs of disease or disorder in the areas tested.
It is important to interpret “unremarkable” results in the context of your overall health and any symptoms you may be experiencing. You will be contacted if further discussion and/or action is needed.
