How to order a repeat prescription
If you take medicine regularly, you’ll usually have a repeat prescription.
This means you can order your medicine when you need it, without having to see a GP every time.
You might be able to ask your pharmacy directly for your medicine if your GP has set this up (repeat dispensing). If not, you’ll need to order your medicines through a repeat prescription from your GP surgery.
There are 3 ways to order a repeat prescription from your GP surgery:
- using your NHS account
- using other online services or apps
- contacting your GP surgery
Using your NHS App or account
You can order a repeat prescription using the NHS App or by logging into your account on the NHS website.
If you’re asked to nominate a pharmacy, you can only nominate a high street pharmacy.
You’ll be able to collect your medicine in person when it’s ready. Some high street pharmacies also deliver.

All prescriptions are computerised. On the right hand side of your prescription is a detachable white sheet which is your repeat prescription slip. When you require more medication please tick it on your slip and return the slip to the surgery personally, by post or fax.
If you wish us to return your prescription to you by post please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.
Alternatively if you have registered for on-line access you can order online via the link at the top of this page. (If you would like to register for on-line access please ask at Reception) or fill in the form by clicking the link below and either email or return it to the surgery.
Many of the local pharmacies will arrange collection of your prescription – contact your local pharmacy for this service.
Please note that telephone requests are not accepted as this is subject to error.
Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.
If you require your medication early for any reason you must let us know (write on the bottom of your counterfoil or tell your pharmacy if you’re going on holiday, etc) otherwise we will not be able to process your request.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Unwanted Medicines
Unwanted medicines cannot be left at the surgery. Your local pharmacy has a facility to dispose of these for you.
