Adult Immunisations – Protect Yourself with Shingles and Pneumococcal Vaccinations
We are inviting eligible patients to book their shingles and pneumococcal vaccinations to protect against serious infections that become more common with age.
Watch the video below as Gaynor Maxwell, one of our Practice Nurses, shares important information about shingles and pneumococcal vaccinations.
Shingles Vaccination
Who Can Get the Shingles Vaccine?
✔️ Patients who turned 65 on or after September 1st 2023
✔️ Patients aged 70-79 years
✔️ Patients aged 50 years and over with a severely weakened immune system, for example: blood cancer, HIV/AIDS or patients who take certain medications that severely weaken the immune system.
Why Get Vaccinated?
- Shingles can cause a painful rash, nerve pain, and complications such as vision loss
- The vaccine reduces cases of shingles by 38% in over-70s and helps prevent severe long-term nerve pain (postherpetic neuralgia)

Pneumococcal bacteria can cause serious infections, including:
- Pneumonia – A major cause of hospitalisation, with 40,000+ cases a year in the UK
- Septicaemia (Sepsis) – A life-threatening blood infection
- Meningitis – A serious infection that can lead to long-term complications or death
Who Needs the Pneumococcal Vaccine?
✔️ Everyone aged 65 and over
✔️ People under 65 with certain health conditions, including:
- Chronic lung, liver, kidney, or heart disease
- Diabetes
- Conditions affecting the brain, spleen, or immune system
How Often is the Vaccine Given?
