Learning Disabilities
A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things throughout their life.
A learning disability is different for everyone. No two people are the same.
A person with a learning disability might have some difficulty:
- understanding complicated information
- learning some skills
- looking after themselves or living alone
Autism
Autistic people may act in a different way to other people
Autistic people may:
- find it hard to communicate and interact with other people
- find it hard to understand how other people think or feel
- find things like bright lights or loud noises overwhelming, stressful or uncomfortable
- get anxious or upset about unfamiliar situations and social events
- take longer to understand information
- do or think the same things over and over

Books Beyond Words
“Beyond Words” provide wordless picture story books suitable for everyone who can’t read or don’t like written words. They provide an opportunity to open up conversations and may be useful to support understanding of physical and mental health, lifestyle and life stages. Each story is co-created with and for people who find pictures easier to understand than words. This includes people with learning disabilities and/or autism, people with cognitive or communication difficulties, such as Dementia, people who have difficulty with reading, including some Deaf people, and people who do not use the language of the country where they are living.
National Autistic Society
They are here to transform lives and change attitudes to help create a society that works for autistic people.
